Three-day Tutor Training for Read Together in June
Become one of our tutors for children! New tutor training will be held starting June 21st for Midcoast Literacy’s Read Together tutoring program for children ages 6-14.
“As pandemic restrictions are lifting, we're excited to have most of our tutors working in-person with their learners again,” says Katie Clark, Read Together Program Director. “At the same time, though, demand for tutoring is increasing and we have children waiting to be matched with tutors. So this is a great time to sign-on as a new tutor for kids!”
Tutors are needed for children ages 6-14 who are struggling to read at grade level and for children from asylum seeking families who are learning to speak, read, and write in English. Training for new volunteers will be held on June 21, 23, and 25, from 9:00-1:00pm each day at Midcoast Literacy's offices (9 Park Street; Bath, ME). Participants must attend all three days to complete the training. The training will be limited to a maximum of 8 new prospective tutors.
Tutors for Read Together must be at least 18 years old; participate in the training for volunteer tutors; and be able to make a minimum one-year commitment. The June training will be held in-person and be limited to a maximum of 8 participants. All new Read Together tutoring sessions are taking place in-person at this time. Face masks are not required but may be worn by both participants at the request of either the tutor or the family.
