A three day in-person training will be held starting November 8th for volunteer tutors interested in working with adult English Language Learners.

Tutor training ALS

Would you like to volunteer to help a New Mainer learn English? Or have you been working your way through ProLiteracy’s online training but could use an in-person boost to finish? After more than a year of only being able to offer training for our tutors of adults through the online platfrom, Midcoast Literacy is again offering an in-person training opportunity. The three-day training will be led by MCL Executive Director Don Lader.

This training is for new tutors (and prospective tutors who have not yet finished then online training modules) interested in working with New Mainers who are learning to speak, read, and write in English.
Training for volunteer tutors will be held in-person on November, 8, 9 & 10, from 9:00am-2:00pm each day at Midcoast Literacy's offices (9 Park Street; Bath, ME). Participants must attend all three days to complete the training.

Volunteer tutors for adults must be at least 18 years old; participate in the full tutor training; and be able to make a minimum one-year commitment. The November training will be held in-person and is limited to a maximum of 10 participants. Once new tutors are paired with a learner, tutoring sessions may be held either remotely or in-person, depending on the learner. Face masks are not required but may be worn by both participants at the request of either the tutor or the learner. You can read more about becoming at tutor at:
