This decision has been made by the Midcoast Literacy staff following the State of Maine's guidance for businesses to minimize the spread of the virus in our community.

Our staff will continue to work remotely during this time, and we will respond to any e-mails and phone messages that are received while the offices are closed.

Regarding our organization’s operations, the following changes to programming been announced:

1) Our tutors will be suspending their face-to-face tutoring meetings with learners in the community until at least May 1.
2) The Conversation Café events for ELL learners that were scheduled in March and April have been cancelled.
3) Our scheduled spring tutor training for Read Together (in the week of April 20) and the scheduled Adult Literacy tutor training (in the week of May 4) will both be postponed. New dates will be announced after our offices re-open.

In the weeks ahead, Midcoast Literacy will be continuing to assess the situation and act in line with the State of Maine's COVID-19 policies. We will post updates here and on our social media regarding when we are resuming regular operations. Thank you for your understanding of the need to suspend our work during this challenging time in our community. If you have any questions, or you are impacted by our suspending of operations and need advice, please contact us at This email address is being protected from spambots. We wish all of our tutors, learners, and supporters to stay safe and healthy, and we look forward to resuming our literacy work together once we return.
