Congratulations to Dez, our Read Together Outstanding Learner for 2024 and our May Success Story honoree.

Dez, now a fourth grader, has been working with her tutor, Janine Boyce, for almost two years. Over that time, Dez has progressed from reading short picture books to the Magic Tree House chapter books. “Reading comes easily for some children and is harder to achieve for others,” said Janine. “What makes Dez a joy to tutor is her endless supply of effort.” Dez also has a special appreciation for the hands-on learning opportunities provided through Read Together. “I like reading with Janine and doing all the activities we do together,” said Dez. “The library is great because it has books for young kids and older kids.” Most recently, Dez and Janine created a supplemental activity packet for the Magic Tree House book Dinosaurs Before Dark to add to our library packet collection. Now, other students in our program who read this book can strengthen their reading skills by doing the accompanying word search, mixed sentence sorting activity, compound word worksheet, and bingo game, all created by Dez. Thank you, Dez and Janine, for adding to our library resources while learning at the same time, and keep following us for more success stories from our tutors throughout the year!
